The Indian Postal Department has announced the online engagement schedule for Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS) for July 2024. Applications are invited for total 44228 post from the eligible candidates to fill the vacant posts of Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDSs) [i.e, Branch Postmaster (BPM)/Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM)/Dak Sevaks] in different offices of the Department of Posts vide NOTIFICATION No. 17-03/2024-GDS dated 12.07.2024 . Educational Qualification:-
- Candidates must have passed the Secondary School Examination (10th standard) with passing marks in Mathematics and English from a recognized board.
- The applicant should have studied the local language at least up to 10th Standard from a recognized board.

- Maximum Age: 40 years
- Age relaxation is applicable as per government norms for reserved categories.
Selection Process:-
The selection process for Gramin Dak Sevaks is based on the merit of the candidates. There is no written examination. The selection criteria include:
- Merit List Preparation: Based on the marks obtained in the 10th standard.
- Document Verification: Shortlisted candidates will be called for document verification.
- Final Selection: Candidates who clear the document verification will be included in the final merit list.
Job Profile of Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS)
- Branch Postmaster (BPM): Responsible for managing postal operations in the branch office, including mail delivery, customer services, and maintaining records.
- Residence/Accommodation: The applicant selected as GDS BPM will have to provide accommodation for Branch post Office after selection but before engagement
- Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM): Assists the BPM in day-to-day postal operations, including mail delivery and customer services.
- Dak Sevak: Handles mail delivery, customer interaction, and other postal duties assigned by the BPM or ABPM.
Salary and Benefits
- Branch Postmaster (BPM): ₹12,000 – ₹ 29,380/-per month.
- Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM) and Dak Sevak: ₹10,000 – ₹ 24,470/-per month.

Important Point:-
- The applicants must clearly understand that the GDSs are not regular employees of the Department and their emoluments, allowances and other entitlements are not at par with the Central Government employees.
- A sevak should have other source of income besides the allowances to be paid by the Government for adequate means of livelihood for himself and his family.
- The candidates selected as BPMs are required to arrange accommodation for running the post office (called as Branch Post Office) at their own cost. The candidates are advised to carefully go through the said GDS Rules, which are available on the official website of the Department.
